The CNSA’s 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 9:30 AM until 12:00 PM via Zoom. The morning’s events will include the 2026 CNSA Member Awards and opportunities to hear from members about the highs (and lows) this past year. Nova Scotia’s archival community needs your help As many of you know, the recently tabled 2026-27 Nova Scotia Provincial Budget, Defending Nova Scotia, included significant cuts across the arts, culture, and heritage sectors. While the majority of these reductions – totalling $130 Million – fall within the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (CCTH), one program critical to archives in Nova Scotia, falls outside of that department. The Provincial Archival Development Program (PADP) – a modest but foundational $50,000 funding program administered by the Nova Scotia Archives – falls under the Department of Service Nova Scotia. In response to the provincial government’s elimination of the Provincial Archival Development Program (PADP), the CNSA President, Catherine Fancy, wrote to the Deputy Minister of Service Nova Scotia to express our deep concern about the program’s loss – read the letter here. On Tuesday, February 24, the CNSA Executive was informed that Service Nova Scotia has eliminated the Provincial Archival Development Program (PADP) as part of recent provincial budget cuts. We were not consulted in advance. While we were told that PADP was under review, we were given no indication that it was at risk of being cut. While many arts, culture, and heritage organizations are facing cutbacks to their operational funding, we were relieved to learn that CCTH has not reduced the CNSA’s operating grant. The CNSA has teamed up with our friends and colleagues in museums and libraries to organize another Libraries, Archives, Museums Nova Scotia (LAMNS) joint conference, which will take place Halifax/Kjipuktuk from October 2-4, 2025. The LAMNS Conference Planning Committee is is inviting proposals for conference presentations, panels, and lightening sessions on the theme of INTERSECTIONS – adaptability, sustainability, and community connections in libraries, archives, and museums.
