Routes to Your Roots (2011)

Created in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Routes to Your Roots was a website that promoted genealogy tourism in Nova Scotia. Marketed to people with no knowledge of genealogy, the website helped locals and visitors easily find potential archives, museums, libraries, and historical societies holding information about their families.

The Roots to Your Roots website, formerly part of novascotia.com, contained a database of common family names in Nova Scotia; information about the families origins, early histories in the province, and predominant locations; itinerary maps and suggested tour routes; links to local archives, museums, and libraries around Nova Scotia including information on their specific resources for local family names and/or founding cultures (Acadian, African Nova Scotian, Gaels, Mi’kmaq, etc.); and links to online trip planning resources such as accommodations, culinary, attractions, festivals and events. Although not a research tool, it was meant to help tourists to connect to Nova Scotia in an engaging and memorable way.
