Nominations are open for the 2024 CNSA Members Awards!
It’s official! We are now accepting nominations for the 2024 CNSA Awards! The awards ceremony will be held at the CNSA Annual Conference and AGM – a hybrid event that will take place both in-person (Halifax) and online on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17, 2024.
We have streamlined the nomination process into one fast and efficient step! Please find the links below for the nomination forms, which can be filled and submitted online. We are very much looking forward to celebrating your resourcefulness, volunteers, and creative new projects this past year!
The three CNSA Awards are…
The Anna Hamilton Award
for outstanding voluntary service to the Nova Scotian archival community
The Anna Hamilton Memorial Award was established by the Council of Nova Scotia Archives in 2004 to honour each year one volunteer who has served the Nova Scotia archival community with sincere dedication and in an exemplary fashion, just as Anna Hamilton did for many years.

The winner of the Anna Hamilton Award receives $100 cheque, a Certificate of Appreciation, and free registration to the CNSA Spring Conference or to a CNSA workshop of the winner’s choice.

The Dr. Phyllis R. Blakeley Award was established by the Council of Nova Scotia Archives in 1988 as a memorial to Dr. Blakeley’s many contributions to the world of archives, and as recognition for current work accomplished within that tradition.
The award is presented annually to a CNSA-member institution displaying outstanding accomplishments in the archival field through a project that has:
- in some way focused upon archival holdings, and/or
- promoted the concept and value of archives, and/or
- displayed excellence relating to a specific archival function (accessioning; appraisal; arrangement and description; and public service), and which has lasting archival value.

The winner will receive $200, the Dr. Phyllis R. Blakeley Award plaque, suitably engraved, to be retained for one year for display purposes; plus a Certificate of Recognition.

The Doug Kirby Award
for outstanding achievement in archival preservation
Preservation Management is the integration of preservation measures into every aspect of archival activity. The goal of the Doug Kirby Award for Outstanding Achievement in Archival Preservation is to foster an appreciation of preservation and recognize its place as a vital component within the ongoing daily operations of an archives.
The award is presented annually to a CNSA-member institution for an exemplary project that has:
- focused in some way upon preservation management; and/or
- promoted the concept of archival preservation;
- and/or displayed excellence in a specific preservation function.

The winner will receive $200 and a Commemorative Certificate acknowledging project details.
