Announcing the Must Attend, First Ever ALM Conference
September 25-27, 2015, Halifax, Nova Scotia

There is a common thread in what archives, libraries and museums do: we collect, manage, and share resources. The approaches and perspectives may be from different fields, but the knowledge sharing, technology, access and future of information resources, and places in which they exist are a common conversation. We have the opportunity to learn and exchange with each other to offer Nova Scotians the engagement and public and community resources they seek.

The conference website is now live! Look through the program and see the opportunities: almconference.ca

This year’s conference, in Halifax from September 25-27, will for the first time bring together the Association of Nova Scotia Museums (ANSM), the Council of Nova Scotia Archives (CNSA), the Library Boards Association of Nova Scotia (LBANS), and the Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA). We look forward to exploring and engaging relevant discussions that you can take-away for professional development. We will explore the convergence of our roles and goals, ways to enhance lifelong learning across disciplines, practical ways to safeguard our cultural and written heritage, and topics of shared interest like advocacy, governance, infrastructure, and legislation.

We are also excited to announce our keynote speaker, Mr. Danny Graham. With over 30 years’ experience in business, law, public policy and politics he has started a wide range of citizen-led initiatives focused on public issues including the establishment of the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program and Envision Halifax. Mr. Graham has been Nova Scotia’s Chief Negotiator in aboriginal rights and title negotiations. Since 2012, he has been mobilizing the development of Engage Nova Scotia – a grassroots initiative fostering a province-wide culture of collaboration, self-reliance, entrepreneurship and innovation. In 2014, the Ivany Commission recognized the work of Engage Nova Scotia in fostering new ideas and changing attitudes to meet the province’s economic and demographic challenges.

Early bird registration is now available until August 20! Register now.

We hope you can attend and be inspired by the many sessions, pre-conference activities, and convergence of participants from all realms to discuss, debate and envision. Looking forward to seeing you at the ALM conference this fall!

If you want to go far, go together.”
– African Proverb

Globally, archives, libraries and museums are recognizing the similarities in the work we do. We all collect, manage and share resources. While professionally we approach these functions from different perspectives. there are many opportunities for us to learn from each other, and to optimize the experiences that we can offer the people of Nova Scotia. In joining together, we can explore practical ways to provide better experiences for the public, increase productivity, and work more efficiently.
For the first time, the Association of Nova Scotia Museums (ANSM), the Council of Nova Scotia Archives (CNSA), the Library Boards Association of Nova Scotia (LBANS) and the Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA) have joined forces to offer an engaging, collaborative conference exploring these ideas in a Nova Scotia context. We will explore:

the convergence of our roles and goals

ways to enhance lifelong leaning across disciplines

practical ways to safeguard our cultural and written heritage

topics of shared interest, like advocacy, governance, infrasstructure and legistration

Please join us for this unique opportunity to meet with colleagues across disciplines, make new connections and together envison new ways to enrich our public places and community spaces.
