Introduction to Preservation for Archives will take place online from October 17-20, 2022, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm each day. It will be taught by Kim Maguire, a professional conservator and the former Archives Advisor for the Council of Archives New Brunswick.

CNSA members and employees/volunteers of members institutions that are up-to-date on their membership fees are eligible for the CNSA Member rate.

Members in good standing are also eligible for Group Rates:

  • $100 per person for 2-4 employees/volunteers from a member organization
  • $75 per person for 5+ employees/volunteers from a member organization

Description

The principles of preservation management dictate that an archivist must first assess, then plan, and only then act. This course will instruct participants in the basics of archival preservation including appropriate care and handling of archival material, agents of deterioration, appropriate storage environments and enclosures, plus knowing when to contact a conservator.

This course will be taught by Kim Maguire, a professional conservator and the former Archives Advisor for the Council of Archives New Brunswick. The course is part of the CNSA’s Archival Certificate Program.

Learning Method

This course is taught online across four consecutive mornings from 9am to noon. Learning is done through a combination of webinar, personal reading, and practical exercises.

Introduction to Archives or experience working in an archive.
