Arrangement & Description will take place online from March 2-3 & 6-7 (Thur-Fri & Mon-Tues) from 9am–12pm each day. Participants will meet on Zoom for lessons and discussion and course materials will be posted on Google Classroom – links for both will be provided a week before the course begins.
There is a minimum enrollment of 10 for this course and maximum of 20. If minimum enrollment is not met, we will contact you to offer you a refund or credit for a future course offering.
CNSA Members who are up to date on their membership fees are eligible for the Member rate.
Members in good standing are also eligible for Group Rates:
- $100 per person for 2-4 employees/volunteers from a member organization
- $75 per person for 5+ employees/volunteers from a member organization

Description
Course Description
Arrangement and description of archival material is the nuts and bolts of archival work. The first half of this course focuses on the principles of arrangement and includes case studies, providing the participant with a “hands on” opportunity to arrange typical fonds. The second half addresses description, different types of finding aids, and the principles of description.
This course is part of the CNSA Archival Certificate Program. Those enrolled in the program will need to complete an assignment at the end of the course to demonstrate their comprehension of the course content.
Learning Method
This course is taught online across four half-day sessions. Most of the content is delivered in class through lectures, discussions, and activities, but some reading may be required between sessions.
Prerequisites
Introduction to Archives or experience working in an archive.
Registration
Registration is open to anyone although preference is given to those enrolled in the Archival Certificate Program and CNSA Members. Staff and/or volunteers at CNSA member organizations in good standing, can register at the discounted rate. Multiple staff/volunteers from a member organization may be eligible for a group discount.
