2017 CNSA AGM/Spring Conference

May 11, 2017 - May 12, 2017

Our 2017 Spring Conference, “Facilitating Accessibility; Celebrating Diversity”, will be held May 11-12, 2017, at Nova Scotia Archives in Halifax. We look forward to welcoming you for two days of inspiring sessions on accessibility and diversity in archives. We encourage you to visit this space, as well as our Facebook page, to get the latest schedule updates.

We will also be hosting a pre-conference workshop on May 10, 2017, on the History of Photography. This workshop will survey photography’s major technical developments since its invention in the early nineteenth century, and examine how photography has been used and understood by practitioners over the centuries. Our instructor, Sharon Murray, is a PhD candidate in Art History at Concordia University specializing in photographic history and theory. She has published articles in Archivaria, Ceil Variable magazine, and the Journal of Canadian Studies, and a chapter in the book, Depicting Canada’s Children. Now based in Halifax, Sharon teaches courses on the history photography at NSCAD University. She recently completed a contract with the Halifax Municipal Archives where she scanned and created descriptive records for thousands of the archive’s photographs.
