General description:

Arrangement and description of archival material is the nuts and bolts of archival work. This workshop covers the principles of arrangement and includes case studies, providing the participant with a “hands on” opportunity to arrange several typical fonds. The second day of the workshop begins with a discussion of description, different types of finding aids, and finishes with participants discussing the principles of description including an introduction to the Rules for Archival Description.

This workshop is part of the CNSA Archival Certificate Program.

Learning Method:

Learning is done through a combination of lecture, personal reading, small group discussion, and practical exercises over a 2-day period in an informal, friendly atmosphere.

Prior knowledge required:

Introduction to Archives workshop or experience working with archival records is an asset but not a requirement. Please contact the Archives Advisor for more information.
