Wednesday, 24 May 2006 - Pre-conference workshop 9 am to 4 pm

Organizing Your Hard Drive: Basics of Electronic File Management
with Julie Morris, Records Analyst, NSARM
A basic 'how-to' session for organizing electronic files on a hard drive. Topics will include basic principles of file management in an electronic environment, how to set up a directory structure, how to name files, version control, the common types of file formats and how to identify them, what to do with email, and the best approach to managing software upgrades.

Caring for Your Computer: Basics of Equipment Maintenance
with Eric Stackhouse, Chief Librarian, Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library
An introduction to the proper care and maintenance of computer hardware, including recommended backup procedures, good and bad points of various storage media, what you need to connect to the Internet, how to decide when new equipment is needed, web server technologies and equipment considerations when doing digital projects.

This session introduces a new set of tools developed by CCA to help us promote archives awareness with the media, the public and with our elected representatives in government. Learn how to develop a positive relationship with your MLA or MP.

Archives Advocacy
Open discussion
What does advocacy for archives mean to you? Have you tried it yet? Should we be doing it individually or as a community? Does it cost much? What are the costs if we don't do it? Come share your experiences and opinions on this important topic.

Garrison Room, Citadel Hill
Enjoy a delicious meal with your colleagues in a unique historic setting. Menu includes for appetizers your choice of mesclun salad or wild mushroom soup; for entrées your choice of Atlantic salmon with hollandaise sauce or chicken stuffed with ricotta cheese and spinach; and for dessert raspberry cheesecake. Learn about the upcoming survey of CNSA members. What information are we trying to capture? Why is it important?

Official Opening of the Film Preservation Cold Vault & Reception
Attend the film cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the long awaited Film Preservation Cold Storage Vault. And join the dignitaries afterward for our traditional wine and cheese reception.
