General Description
This 2 day workshop discusses the importance of preparing for emergencies and provides instruction in creating an emergency plan. The steps to identify and reduce hazards are outlined. The salvage of records and artifacts from an emergency is presented in terms of stabilizing damaged collections. Other topics addressed include getting organized, health and safety issues, stabilizing the environment, dealing with the media, and keeping emergency preparedness "alive".
Learning Goals
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- plan and develop an emergency response plan
- identify and take measures to reduce and avoid or eliminate potential hazards
- assess, prioritize, salvage, and stabilize water-damaged records and artifacts
- implement an emergency response plan
- employ proper health and safety actions in the event of an emergency
Who Should Attend
Archivists, conservators, curators, librarians, managers of collections, managers of facilities, registrars, security and maintenance personnel, and volunteers.
