Historic Restoration Society of Annapolis County

The Historic Restoration Society of Annapolis County was founded in 1969, and was origianlly known as Historic Restoration Enterprises. Its purpose was to "foster and encourage interest in and restoration of buildings and sites of an historic and cultural nature" and to "acquire and restore buildings, sites, artifacts and records appropriate to this end." The Archives owes its existance to the work of Society founding member Marguerite Wagner. who early on understood the value of salvaging and researching the documentary record of our community whenever and however it became available. She realized the archival and historical value of records that were being ignored and jettisoned. Always enthusiastic, and passionate about the history of Annapolis County, she was, in the best archival tradition, open to records from all sectors of society, documenting all aspects of our past. Today, Marguerite is still active in historical research of the area. The Society currently owns and operates the O'Dell Inn (1869) as a seasonal museum and the Sinclair Inn (1710) as a seasonal display centre. The Bonnet House is home to the Society's archival and genealogical collections, and administrative offices. The Society also operates North Hills Museum for the Nova Scotia Museum.
