James Havelock Harding [ca. 1904] James Harding was a born in Shelburne in 1888 and worked as a master builder. He built the ferry Edgar N. Rhodes, schooners, a square rigger, steam boats, yachts, "rum runners," freighters, a tug boat and draggers. A number, such as the Edgar N. Rhodes were from the design of marine architect W.J. Roue while others were his own designs. Jim served both as a councilor and mayor of Shelburne. Jim was a descendant of Loyalist Hasper and Elizabeth (Hansen) Harding who settled at Jones Harbour, Shelburne County on 17 April 1785. He died in 1978.
