 St. Paul's Church Archives
St. Paul's Church, founded by Royal Decree the same day as the settlement of Halifax, made its first archival record that very day under "Burials." That of "John White, mariner of the Sphinx man of war. June 21st 1749." This is the first entry in the oldest Protestant church register in Canada. The burial was recorded by the Rev. William Tutty, the missionary to Halifax. The archives has continued to amass material for 250 years since that day.

Numerous rectors made took serious interests in preserving the history of St. Paul's. They included Rev. George Hill, a founding member of the N.S. Historical Society, Rev. Dyson Hague and Archdeacon William Armitage. Presently a volunteer committee cares for the records and provides public access. The collection is a reflection of St. Paul's role and presence in the history of Halifax since is founding.

Below are examples of the type of records housed in the St. Paul's Church Archives. Click on the images for details.
