"After Saloon Ship Sokoto

1901

Interior of the saloon of the barque Sokoto. Seated is the ship's captain Percy Crosby and his wife of Yarmouth. The vessel was built in Port Glasgow, Scotland in 1887. The photograph was taken while on a voyage to Japan. The vessel was sunk during World War I by a submarine off the coast of Cape Wrath Scotland. It reveals in excellent detail the interior of a sailing vessel, photographs of which are quite rare.
