Under the direction of the Executive Board, the Archives Advisor:

  • develops, coordinates and delivers training for CNSA member archives
  • provides outreach services and liaison with cultural, heritage and educational bodies
  • carries out various advisory services for member archives
  • assists in the development of ArchWay, our provincial archival database.

Karen will provide advice on archival topics and arrange to visit any archives.

Office hours: 7:15 am to 3:15 pm, Monday to Friday

Bio

A native of Amherst, NS, Karen became a member of the CNSA in 1994. She has served as a member, then as chair of the Education Committee, as member-at-large on the Executive Committee when Anita Price was President, and as treasurer when Ernie Dick and then Peter Crowell were President.

Her formal training includes a Bachelor of Arts in history from Mount Saint Vincent University, and a Master of Library & Information Studies from Dalhousie University. She was also a member of the first graduating class of the CNSA Archives Core Curriculum in 2002.

Before taking on the role of the Archives Advisor in June 2004, Karen worked for nine years as the Archivist and Librarian for the Catholic Archdiocese of Halifax Archives.

In her spare time, Karen enjoys nature walks, gardening and watching the Antiques Roadshow.
