Searching Descriptive Records Help

Users can search the ArchWay Descriptive Database several ways: keyword (all fields), title, institution, access point, and subjects.

When searching by institution, access points and subjects, users may select terms from menus which can be cut and pasted into the corresponding search field.

Within each searchable field, the database software also enables the user to perform a boolean search. Each initiated search session will search all levels of description - fonds, sous fonds, series, and sub-series.

Searching Photographs Help

The ArchWay Photographic Database is comprised of selected images from fonds already entered in the ArchWay Descriptive Database. Each fonds can have up to 6 images entered in the database. Presently the database can not accommodate entire photographic collections or photographic fonds.

Fields used by the database are drawn from RAD, however due to space constraints, all fields from Chapter 4 are not included. Institutions are encouraged to consult RAD while choosing their own fields for in-house graphic material description. For further assistance, please see the ArchWay Review of RAD Chapter 4.

The ArchWay Photographic Database can be searched by: keyword (all fields), institution, title, date, photographer, scope and content, retreival code and subject.

When searching by institution and subjects users may select terms from menus which can be cut and pasted into the corresponding search field.
